In the face of escalating climate change challenges, grassroots innovation has become a critical driver of sustainable solutions. Since 2018, Anza Entrepreneurs, in partnership with EIT Climate-KIC and Irish Aid, has led the ClimateLaunchpad competition in Tanzania, providing a pivotal platform for eco-entrepreneurs. This initiative not only supports the development of green business ideas but also fosters a growing network of alumni who are driving positive change across a wide range of sectors.

As the country lead for ClimateLaunchpad, Anza Entrepreneurs plays a central role in identifying, nurturing, and scaling climate-focused innovations in Tanzania. Through mentorship, training, and access to networks, the organization empowers entrepreneurs to transform ideas into viable solutions that address the country’s climate challenges. The programme equips participants with the skills, guidance, and exposure needed to prepare for investment, validate business models, and scale their solutions locally and regionally.

The competition covers a broad spectrum of sectors, including climate adaptation and resilience, circular economies, urban solutions, clean energy, sustainable mobility, food systems, and the blue economy. By spanning these areas, ClimateLaunchpad Tanzania encourages innovation across diverse fronts, ensuring that solutions are both impactful and relevant to the country’s environmental and economic context.

Tanzania faces a variety of climate challenges, from unpredictable rainfall and droughts to energy access gaps and growing urban waste issues in cities like Dar es Salaam. These challenges present opportunities for innovators to develop practical, scalable solutions. Past examples include solar-powered irrigation systems for smallholder farmers, circular plastic recycling initiatives in urban centers, and solar-powered cold storage solutions that reduce post-harvest losses and improve food security. Such innovations reflect the kind of high-impact, locally-driven solutions that ClimateLaunchpad seeks to foster.

Through structured training, mentorship, and competition stages, ClimateLaunchpad Tanzania provides participants with the tools to move their ideas from concept to investment-ready ventures. The programme begins with applications, followed by bootcamp training, national pitch events, regional finals, and ultimately, the global grand final. Top teams benefit from global exposure and opportunities to connect with investors, partners, and climate innovation networks.

Entrepreneurs with climate-focused ideas are invited to apply through the official ClimateLaunchpad platform. Applications require a description of the climate challenge, the proposed solution, market potential, and team background. Shortlisted participants join Anza Entrepreneurs’ national training programme, gaining access to the resources and support needed to scale their solutions.

By fostering innovation and providing a platform for green entrepreneurs, Anza Entrepreneurs and ClimateLaunchpad Tanzania are helping to build a new generation of climate leaders, turning locally-driven solutions into scalable ventures with regional and global impact.
