Pitch
Based on an innovative, particularly robust catalyst, “co2ol catalyst” enables simplified recycling of CO2 emissions into methanol, a valuable raw material for the chemical industry. By this, we combine local reduction of CO2 emissions with the potential to defossilize chemical value chains.
Originating from TU Wien, the novel catalyst material demonstrates outstanding resilience against common impurities found in CO2 streams, particularly sulfur compounds. This translates into substantial cost advantages in exhaust gas treatment compared to preceding CO2 utilization processes.
The catalysts high sulfur tolerance facilitates the valorization of previously unused CO2 side streams from biogenic sources such as biogas/bioethanol. By this, it enables production of methanol with an extremely low CO2 footprint, aligning with the growing demand for renewable, sustainable resources.
