Around 2.5 billion disposable coffee cups are thrown away in the UK each year. Because of their plastic coating, the paper cups are difficult to recycle and the majority of paper cup waste is going to landfill or incineration, thereby generating tons of greenhouse gas emissions.
We convert waste paper cups and other paper-plastic composite waste materials into carbon-rich char using a process called pyrolysis. The char is the base for our product – CreChar – an organic plant growth enhancer, which effectively provides nutrients to the plant and has a long-lasting positive effect on soil quality. CreChar is easy to use and suitable for plants in pots and containers.
With CreChar we not only divert waste from landfill and avoid greenhouse gas emissions but also store carbon in the soil for hundreds to thousands of years.
