In emerging countries, one billion people do not have access to electricity and spend up to 30% of their wages to light up and charge their phones. Most of Sub-Saharan African people own a phone but need to go back to town to charge it.
hiLyte develops an iron battery based on a model of consumables to replace regularly (iron, paper, and iron salt), that enables people to get light and charge a phone. Our solution is cheap and nontoxic, which allows to operate small electronic devices (LED, phone charger, etc …).
After inserting the consumables, they get discharged and the end solution can be dumped on the ground without any harm for the environment.
