Pine Kazi

Using pineapple waste to craft eco-friendly casual shoes

Pitch

The global pineapple industry produces 766 million tonnes of post harvest waste annually. Kenya alone my home country produces 80,000 tonnes per month which is either eliminated through burning or chemical decomposition releasing 1.8 million metric tones of CO2 and methane which are harmful to the environment. This problem extends well beyond climate change as its a major cause of respiratory problems and cancer as well. To solve the problem we created Pine Kazi. A new and innovative social venture that works together with unemployed youths to convert the pineapple waste into eco-friendly casual shoes which we sell to eco conscious millenials around the world.
