SaproGlue

Natural glue from lake sediments applicable for multiple purposes

Pitch

Overgrowing of freshwater lakes induced by biomass increase is a common problem in Europe and worldwide. As a result of this process, specific sediments – sapropel or gyttja – originate in lakes. Due to variable composition of these lake sediments they can be applied in different ways. Part of sediments is a natural nanostructured material with shape holding ability and high capacity of adhesive properties.

Thus SaproGlue is a sustainable and biodegradable product made from freshwater lake sediments and it can be used to glue various renewable natural materials such as green waste (e.g., wood sanding dust, wood fibre, hemp shives) to produce ecological construction materials with high insulation efficiency. It is environmentally friendly alternative instead of harmful inorganic adhesives available at the market currently, as well as the way of sustainable management of lake ecosystems.
