At 26th of September SMERGY heard that they were one of the finalists of CleanLaunchpad Grand EU Final, October 29th.
What is SMERGY about?
SMERGY developed a BigData Software platform for distribution grid operators to be able to control a large amount of distributed consumer devices such as cooling and heating systems. Our aim is to optimize to the energy market: on one hand our solution prevents emissions of power production and on the other hand it will generate new business models.
Most balance energy is offered by flexible conventional power plants that are precisely adjustable but are also emitting a huge amount of emissions. The market price of balance energy is 10 to 400 times more expensive than the normal electricity price.
SMERGY introduces this platform to help distribution grid operators to balance the frequency in real-time on the micro-grid level. With their solution SMERGY is leveraging the existing infrastructure, is less cost expensive, increases the amount of renewable energy and avoids more emissions through cost expensive and dirty flexible power plants.
What is your strategy to win this competition?
“We practice our pitch any time: during regular meetings/skype calls as well as other pitch occasions. In this way we sharpen our communication, which we think is essential in our start-up phase. The rest of the time we are working on our business idea, doing customer validation interviews, research and prototyping. And to top it of, we’ve planned a pitch session with Holger Dieterich, well known in the Berlin start-up scene, to get the golden suggestion for the CleanLaunchpad Grand EU Final.”
What are your expectations for Climate-KIC’s Innovation Festival?
“Two days of doing entrepreneurial exchange, talking the whole day about ideas within the “cleantech” industry, that will expand our horizon for sure.”
“Our dream is to become the Google of energy market and break the chains of conventional methods of energy trading and bring the benefits to the end consumes as well as big energy players.”
