Pitch
Recent years have seen a movement to ditch the disposable and let reusables reign. While reusable menstrual products generate less waste, do they really have less environmental impact? Menstrual cups usually made of silicone remain intact for decades. Period underwears and cloth sanitary napkins use non-biodegradable leakproof material. Disposable sanitary pads and tampons marketed as “organic” may contain plastics that are not necessarily bio-based and/or biodegradable. Girls and women are yet to achieve zero-waste-period zen.
X-Femme strives for true zero waste periods through sustainable convenience. Our first product will be 100% biobased, biodegradable and bioplastic-free disposable sanitary napkins that incorporate components extracted from food waste. Our complementary product will accelerate the biodegradation of our used menstrual products beyond home compost. With funding we can incorporate, establish online presence, make initial key hires, develop our prototypes and more.
