Xi Bassile

We provide an innovative nature-based solution for urban drainage.

Pitch

Stormwater management is an increasingly relevant and challenging urban issue. Climate change and growing urbanisation rates increase water runoff and lead to more frequent and intense flooding. In Mozambique, waste constantly obstructs the already insufficient drainage infrastructure, compromising its efficiency.
Xi Bassile focuses on green infrastructure and nature-based solutions to address these challenges, aiming to provide design, construction and maintenance of bioswales to Mozambican municipalities. Bioswales are a linear sustainable drainage system that uses soil and vegetation not only to drain but also to absorb and filtrate stormwater while supporting biodiversity and providing aesthetic value. Our innovative design repurposes waste as constructive components to increase the bioswale’s pore space and, consequently, boost its water absorption and temporary water storage capacity, tackling stormwater and waste management simultaneously.
