2018, another year of records for start-ups fixing climate change across the globe

CO2 absorbent building blocks. A way to turn waste into energy with microbial fuel cells. Technology that puts a stop to grain waste. Those ideas won our 2018 competition.

Out of the record number of 1,500 ideas entered in the record amount of 44 countries, these start-ups are among the crème de la crème of the green business future.

Watch their pitches during our Global Grand Final:

Eco2Blocks, eco friendly construction blocks

  • 45% cheaper than regular blocks with 10 times faster production method
  • 100% waste based
  • 0% usage of potable water

JSP, cleaning polluted water and turning it into energy

  • Affordable microbial fuel cell technology
  • Energy positive method
  • Saving 5,000 tonnes of CO2 annually in beach head market

Crover, reducing grain losses by 80 to 100%

  • Grain storage monitoring with sensor technology
  • Mapping, analysis and advice
  • Saving 425,000 tonnes of CO2 annually in beach head market

Tip of the iceberg

However… these three winners are just the tip of the iceberg. The quality and viability of almost all 132 green start-ups that made it to our 2018 Global Grand Final is high. What to think about the non-toxic insulation material made out of mineral waste? Or a 3D printing solution that uses saw dust as ‘ink’? Or the smart wind turbine that transforms highways into renewable energy sources?
